LIFE IS A WARFARE

THE TWO STANDARDS
LIFE IS A WARFARE:  a warfare between two standards:  the Standard of Christ and the Standard of Satan.  It is a warfare older than the world, for it began with the revolt of the angels.  It is a warfare wide as the world; it rages in every nation, every city, in the heart of every man.  Satan desires all men to come under his Standard, and to his end, lures them with riches, honor, power, all that ministers to the lust and pride of man; Christ , on the contrary, invites all to fight under His Standard.  But He offers no worldly allurement; only Himself.  Only Jesus; only the Son of Man:  born an outcast, raised in poverty, rejected as a teacher, betrayed by His friends, crucified as a criminal.  And therefore His followers must be ready to suffer what He suffered:  poverty, persecution, betrayal, at times even death.  But Jesus, the Son of Man, is also Jesus, the Son of God.  And therefore His followers shall not be confounded forever, they are certain of ultimate victory; against them the gates of Hell cannot prevail.  The powers of darkness shall splinter before their splendid battalions.  Battle-scarred but resplendent, they shall enter into glory with Christ, their King.  Two armies, two standards, two generals… and to every man there comes the imperious cry of command:  Choose!  Christ or Satan?  Choose!  SANCTITY or SIN?  Choose!  HEAVEN or HELL?  And in the choice he makes is summed up the life of every man.

RH BILL FIGHT STARTS ANEW

While the godless elements do not tire of working to achieve their goal of bringing our country on the same level as the godless societies that legalized hedonism and abortion and euthanasia and homosexual union and divorce, we also must not tire of defending our society from the attacks of these godless elements.

We cannot remain passive about this.  We either fight for a godly society with laws that protect the Christian morals of the people and the rights of God, or find ourselves in the near future living in a society where following God and living Christian lives become illegal.

The ungodly congressmen and senators are making themselves instruments in making our Filipino country hostile to God in the name of separation of Church and State.  In the name of separation of Church and state they want the Filipino people to have split personalities where their conscience will be separated from their action.  It is stupid to separate one's head from one's body, or one's soul from one's body because such separation will cause death.  So also with society.  To separate morality from government is suicide.  Too soon will anarchy become the law.  When morality dies, the law will cease to protect the good.  It will become the liberation of the bad who can find in the words of the law their justification, and then the good will lose their right to do good or to remain good because the law will be the protection of the bad.  When the immoral becomes lawful, the moral will lose their rights.

Before us, dear friends is the real battle.  And we see the standard of Satan on the one side and standard of Christ on the other.  What are we to do, we who see the battle in front of us?  FIGHT!!!!

Cowards cannot go to heaven.  Cowardice is no virtue.  We must pick up our battle gear and not hide. we must go forward to FIGHT!!! Onward, brave soldiers!  Viva Cristo Rey!

October 7 Dawn Procession

In rain we made our dawn procession in honor of the Queen of the Most Holy Rosary.   It felt so good to be able to manifest our devotion as the city began to wake up and rise for the day.  After the procession we proceeded to the ACIM-Asia office where we had prepared the breakfast table.  Thanks to Chief Captain Seymour Apalisok we had boxes of chocolates and packs of Arabian dates and mixed nuts which we spread out on the table together with our bread and spreads and coffee and fruits.

The rain was very bad in the central part of the city so the group coming from that quarter came late, and did their own 15-decade vigil before the Blessed Sacrament in honor of Our Lady.  Then they came to the office where they partook of the fiesta treats.

Still a third batch came in the evening..  Those who could not join the morning devotion came in the evening and afterwards enjoyed also the chocolates and nuts and bread and fruits.

Everyone drew lots from the raffle that we had prepared to thank Our Lady and also God for the goodness that the benefactors have shared to the Rosa Mystica Mission patients.  We picked names of sponsors and benefactors for whom we were to offer Rosaries and Holy Masses.  Patients who came to the office that day also picked their lots.

Those who could helped in the making of thank you cards for the benefactors.

The day ended with a barbecue fiesta.  Happy feast day, everyone!!!!

October 7: Feast of Our Lady of the Holy Rosary

Formation Session 4: Meditation

On October 3 we had the session on Meditation.  Daily meditation would bring us to sanctification.

To be united with God we must pray.  Prayer is having conversation with God.  How we pray is important because if we do not pray properly we will not gain merit.  As written in the Bible, many will call God in vain.  Not all who call "Lord, Lord..." shall be saved.

If we want to have effective communication with God, we must first learn to listen to God.  If we do all the talking (and not so respectfully at that), we cannot hear God and if we do not listen to Him, how can we hear His answer to our monologue of demands?

We can hear God speak through His very words in the Gospel.  We can listen to a good sermon, or read approved explanations of the Gospel, or read from the lives of Saints who have tried in human circumstances to translate the words of the Gospel into real human lives.  Their writings and their lives are effective translations of the Gospel.  When we have read, we will concentrate on one or two lines that strike us most.

And we will begin to reflect on it by recalling when, where, to whom, and how Our Lord spoke the words.  We will picture out the scene and try to understand what Our Lord Jesus was trying to say to the one He was speaking to.  What did He mean when He said His words?

Then we will imagine Him saying the same words to us.  And we will try to see how we can apply His words to our present situation.  We will see the obstacles that will make it difficult for us to follow His words and then we will make a step by step plan on how we can put His words in practice.  This step by step plan will be our resolution.

Then we will present to Our Lord our resolution and ask Him for guidance and strength.  We will tell Him our difficulties in reaching our goal, and we will ask Him for grace to keep us going.  We will tell Him our wishes and our problems.  We will tell Him we love Him and ask Him to inspire us on how we can be more pleasing to Him.  All these conversations will be our colloquy with God.  And then before we end our colloquy, we will ask our Blessed Mother and the saints to help us also in our resolution.

Then we will end with some vocal prayers and add a hymn to God if possible.

It goes without saying that we start our meditation with a prayer to the Holy Ghost.  Too many founders of sects and false religions started with some kind of mental exercise inspired by the evil spirit.  If we do not pray we may delude ourselves into some personal imaginative interpretation of the Gospel and then set up our own church.  If we hear voices and see lights... hah... we must fear that the devil is playing tricks on us!  Pride can make us want to be special people with special communication line with the divine, and the devil will then want to entertain us.

Formation Session 3: Why the Name "Apostles of Mary"?

On September 26, we learned why we were called Apostles of Mary, not Apostles of Jesus.

True, our goal is to be united with God, the Most Holy Trinity.  As with other sects who claim to be Christian, we want to be united with Our Lord Jesus Christ.  But we are not called Apostles of Jesus, but Apostles of Mary.  And the reason is simple, because we are called to preach to the modern world the efficacy of the devotion to Mary in arriving to the sublime goal of union with God.

Since many people, even Catholics, nowadays are ignorant of the efficacy of devotion to Mary, we are to first study the True Devotion to Mary, and then when we have come to practice and love it, we will spread it.  Our Blessed Mother is the Gate of Heaven, the Tabernacle where our Lord Jesus Christ shall be found.  If we wish to find our Lord Jesus Christ, we should take heed of the announcement made by the Angel Gabriel so we will know where to find Him:  "Hail Mary, full of grace, the LORD is WITH THEE."  So, clearly, if we go to Our Lady, we will find Our Lord.  We shall preach this beautiful truth for as long as we can.  "In the end, My Immaculate Heart will triumph!"

Formation Session 2: The Grid

It is easier to conquer a city than to conquer one's self.  The first battle to be fought is our inclination to sin and to sloth.  We have to constantly fight and the grid will be the tally sheet of our wins or losses, and our guide for examination of conscience.  Everyone of us was given a copy of the grid, and we could have more if we make a mess of our first week entries.  And we were each given a copy of the prose:  "Life is a Warfare".  And we are to memorize it word for word and recite it when we are hiking or working or when we are bored.  So we will remember the battle cry:  CHOOSE:  Christ or Satan?  Heaven or Hell?  And in the daily choice we make will be summed up our very life.

Formation Session 1: FOUR FOUNDATIONS

With a new set of officers, the clan had been having a series of formation sessions every Sunday since September 19, given by the clan guide, Y.E. Gamutan.

The topic last September 19 was the Four Foundations of the League, which were:  Interior Life, Study, Charity, and Apostolic Work.

Regarding the interior life, we were told that if we did not grow spiritually our lives would be in vain.  Our end is to be united with Our Creator and we have to journey spiritually in order to achieve our goal. To aid us in this journey, we are to begin with a grid, which would aid us in developing a life of prayer.  The grid would help us to gauge where we are in the royal road to personal sanctification.

Our efforts to be united with God is to start with a serious study, as we cannot yearn for what we do not know...  Indeed, we cannot have a desire to have or be with something or someone we never knew anything of.  Ignorance would be our greatest enemy and STUDY would be our friend.  With study we can have educated convictions, and we will have piety rooted firmly on faith.  We must not remain ignorant because our intellect is made to discover TRUTH and in discovering the TRUTH we will find GOD, Who is The TRUTH.

Charity is to be the ruling force of the league.  Without charity we would be divided against ourselves, and we could not achieve our goal. In the practical sense we have to be of good manners and right conduct in order not to be offensive to our teammates.  We had to be sensitive to the needs of others in order to build harmony.  And we have to be careful to observe modesty in order not to cause scandal to our friends.  In a spiritual sense, we have to LOVE GOD and our neighbor for the love of God.  Without love of God, all our activities would not have merit.  We have to keep in mind that everything we do and say should be done for the love of God.  The best way to show God our Love for Him is to obey His Commandments.  "If you love Me, keep my commandments."  Charity is the bond of perfection.  To have an understanding of what charity really meant, we were asked to open the Holy Bible and all together, we read aloud the first epistle of St. Paul to the Corinthians, chapter 13, verses 1-13.

Apostolate is the outward manifestation of charity.  'Faith without good works is dead".  If we say we love God and see our brother in need and close our heart to him, how can we say that we love God?"  So, if we truly love God, we cannot be blind to the needs of our neighbors.  We discussed the works of mercy but we were reminded that in the league we were not required to go to the marketplace and the bus terminals to preach as the protestant evangelizers do.  We are to preach first by our Christian lives.  We have to live first our grid and then later, gradually, we can influence others who will notice the change in our lives.  If we preach without living what we preach we will be clearly identified as the phonies and hypocrites that we are and will never succeed in inviting people to live a life of prayer and love of God.  We will not be asked to preach until we are ready because our main focus is to discover ourselves and our weaknesses, to develop Christian habits and to know God and love God.  If we begin to live good Catholic lives, the time for apostolate will come spontaneously.  When our family and firiends notice a good change in our behavior, they will ask questions and we will be called to answer their questions, and then we can start inviting them to join us in prayers.  Later we can invite them to the sacraments.  But first, we are to live genuine Christian lives, and then STUDY in order to be ready to answer questions regarding the Catholic Faith. As we study we can grow deeper in our relationship with God and bear fruit in apostolate.
